Like I have said before, Mike and I are starting to take a path off the main road as we travel. We travel I-90 a lot...going to and from Billings or to pick up the kids in Frenchtown. While on our recent trip to Helena...I wanted to stop in Milltown to get fuel, but was not paying attention to the exit and kept on going. Once we came up to Drummond, we pulled in to get gas. Across the street from the gas station was a corral with this sign on it "Mentzer's Used Cow Lot". I about busted a gut. I told Mike to stop so I could take a picture, mind you, it was in the middle of the one street the town had...and Barney Fife was just down the road.
I actually thought the sign was funny and wanted to post it!
As we travel back and forth, we always see the Gondola going up Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Idaho. We have never stopped or even gone into the town of Kellogg before. So, we decided it would be a great time to do so. We were heading back early in the day so we had plenty of time to stop and play. The ride starts in the village at the base of Silver Mountain at an elevation of 2300 feet and 19 minutes and 3.1 miles later you and can be 3400 vertical feet higher, at an elevation of 5700 feet at the Mountain Haus terminal on Kellogg Peak.
A view looking down into the valley of Kellogg
RaeLynn and I glancing at what we just went over. Gorgeous view! Inside these cabins you can fit up to 7 people or two mountain bikes. The people who work there state some people are to picky about their "expensive" bikes and hall one at a time up the mountain...but don't care about all the damage they do as they ride down.
Rae enjoying the view. She wants to come skiing here next winter
Ski run
Running down the bike trail
Making her "bike jump"
This guy made it down the mountain in less that 1/2 hour. He says when they are racing, it takes about 15 minutes down hill.
I love this smile on Rae's face!
Another view of Kellogg from the Mountain Haus
Snow in June!
Just another path we took off the road. Will continue to find more adventures "off the beaten path" in the near future!
